The Indian River Farms Water Control District operates under Chapter 298, Florida Statute - Drainage & Water Control which is available at http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2012/Chapter298
The Indian River Farms Drainage District was incorporated on May 8, 1919 for a period of ninety nine (99) years from that date and extends to May 8, 2018.
Chapter 2018-176, House Bill No. 1115 became a law removing the 99 year term limitation on March 23, 2018 and filed in Office Secretary of State March 23, 2018.
The first meeting of landowners within the District was held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday June 4, 1919 for the purpose of electing a Board of three (3) Supervisors. Each Supervisor was elected by the landowners, present at the meeting, for terms of office of one, two and three years. A detailed record of this initial meeting is available in the original minute book at the District office.
The Board of Supervisors, by Section 10 of Chapter 6458 of the Laws of Florida, resolved a uniform tax for the current year of 1919 of $.40 per acre of land within the drainage district.
Due to changes in State Statutes a name change was required in October 1972 to Indian River Farms Water Management District. On August 10, 1978 the name was again changed to the Indian River Farms Water Control District which is upheld to the present day.
