Indian River Farms Water Control District operates on a fiscal year beginning October 1st and ending on September 30th. Annual audits are required with audited statements being filed with the Department of Financial Services per Section 218.32(1)(g), Florida Statutes – Annual financial reports: local government entities). These are done per Florida Statutes 218.39: “Ensure elected officials are using correct information to base financial decisions throughout the year. Provide assurance to the public that taxpayer dollars are used: in compliance with statutory regulations, efficiency, responsibly”.
The District is required to establish a Non-Ad Valorem assessment that will provide for administration of the District affairs and maintain existing facilities. The Non-Ad Valorem assessment is collected by Indian River County and is indicated separately on your general tax bill. The tax rate for fiscal year 2014-2015 is $17.00 per acre or any portion thereof. The new tax rate beginning October 1, 2015 will be $18.00 per acre or any portion thereof.
